web 2.0 is transforming the way news is consumed. serious journalism and networking are key solutions for television news. the european tv reporters' cup 2010 brings together young talent from all over europe for a unique contest of expertise and skill. this is not a battle of show-reels - this is a real-time challenge in which teams of up to three vie for the "serious microphone prize" - and a 4,000-euro award - by preparing a 2 minute film against the clock.

the date: 26-30 may 2010.

the venue - where the films are to be made - is the city of balatonkenese and the region surrounding lake balaton, hungary.

  • encourage new talent, measuring professional suitability and level of training

  • honour professional attitude, recognising and encouraging responsible, professional reporting

  • encourage friendships
  • commemorate journalists who have given their lives reporting the news

internationally renowned professionals guarantee the highest possible standard:

  • an international jury consisting of seven distinguished professionals to ensure that individual national interests are transcended;

  • numerous professional partners; and
  • an organising committee with many years of experience both in managing the competition and in the field of journalism.

  • before the topics are drawn, the jury provides professional guidance and training for the competitors - first day

  • as the awards are being presented the jury gives an assessment of the best entries, and then provides informal feedback to all competitors who request it.


the reporters' cup boasts a 16-year tradition. the first event in 1994 had reporters from the ukrainian-romanian-hungarian border area pitting their expertise against one another. the sixth competition was already gathering reporters from throughout europe, while the seventh cup in 2008 also had representatives from the asia-pacific region competing in what had by then become a truly international event.
